Jason Cohen, Psy.D, M.A.
Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Background

I hold a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in clinical psychology and a Master of Arts in counseling psychology. Some of the more diverse areas of my training include advanced training in non-verbal behavior (e.g., FACS) and as a hostage negotiator by a federal agency.

The basis for my current practice comes having unique opportunities to work and/or train in settings whose diversity is rivaled only by the clients/patients I have assessed, treated or worked with. I have worked in private practice, intensive outpatient programs, on inpatient units, in crisis/emergency room settings, maximum-security forensic hospitals, and state and federal prisons. Within those environments I have conducted individual, group, and family therapy or psychological testing on individuals with a full spectrum of psychiatric disorders, drug/alcohol related disorders, “at risk” adolescents, high conflict families, individuals of all ages coping with trauma, stressful situations and life transitions, grief, interpersonal conflict, relationship difficulties and violence, issues that resulted in difficulties with school or work, or were the basis for juvenile or adult legal interactions, and acute crisis such as suicide attempts. Furthermore, I have been called as an expert witness in court proceedings, and published research and chapters in peer-reviewed journals and text books which has been presented on major news networks such as Fox and CNN. I have also taught addiction sciences courses at the college level.

Although much of my experience is in working with issues that resulted in distress, I have also worked with clients seeking to enhance themselves, such as athletes, professionals seeking vocational transitions, and those simply looking for insight. In addition to this, I have served as a fitness consultant, served as a consulting psychologist to businesses and been interviewed for syndicated magazines.
